Mr. S.M.M. Ranaweera is a 67-year-old kidney patient from Ethul Kotte. With a history of Diabetes, Hypertension and Heart disease, he had no alternative but to resort to Hemodialysis twice a week as advised by the Consultants which he continued for a period of one year. He is the father of an adult son, and his spouse is a housewife. He had a garage from which he earned an income, but his deteriorating medical condition, and the recent pandemic, reluctantly compelled him to close shop. Thus, he and his wife became dependents of their son. As mentioned by him, “I was fortunate enough to receive a Deceased Donor organ from the hospital, and I am thankful to the Trust Fund, for supporting me financially in this regard and for bringing me back to normal life.” With all the medical expenditure incurred, they have been financially unstable to bare all medical costs. His transplant was successfully completed on the 3rd of January 2023 and was discharged from hospital on the 11th of January 2023.
